What to Wear: Sorority Rush Week Day 3

TOUR

Sorority rush week is almost over! In just two short days you’ll be running home to your new sorority, your future best friends and bridesmaids. Pretty exciting huh? Now that it’s the third day of rush week you may be a little lost on what to wear, how dressy your outfits should be? What outfits aren’t acceptable? No worries, because I’ve created three perfect outfits for the third day of sorority rush week!

Screen Shot 2015-06-10 at 10.23.42 PM

Outfit Number One:

On the third day you’ll be visiting less houses and sorority members will be looking for something in each PNM that makes them stand out from the rest. Wearing a bright colored dress will make it easy for someone to remember you and they’ll be more likely to remember why they love you so much! Pair a bright dress with a pair of simple and comfortable wedges. Adding a few accessories is ideal, just remember less is more.

Outfit Number 2:

Staying with dresses I chose this yellow shift dress which is bright and stylish. Shift dresses are the perfect outfit of choice for rush week day three. Shift dresses are stylish and flattering and can be found in several stores now a days for decent prices! Check your local boutiques for cute patterns and styles that describe you. A few cute accessories are key for dressing up a simple dress. I love House of Harlow necklaces and Kendra Scott personally! P.S, those adorable wedges are from Tory Burch, I’ve seen them everywhere lately and can’t wait to get my hands on them.

Outfit Number Three:

Depending on your school’s greek life you may have more strict rules for what you have to wear on day three, this is why I have included a dressier version for those of you that this applies to. A simple a-line dress is flattering on everyone and is still stylish. I couldn’t help but gush over the adorable pattern on this dress! Pairing an a-line dress with a pair of nude or black heels is the perfect way to dress up any dress. They add a more sophisticated and classy look. Again we are sticking with minimal accessories so as not to over do.

During day three of sorority rush week expect to be having more serious conversations and longer conversations at that. Now is the time to really get to know the sorority and what they are truly about and their beliefs. If you see someone in a party you remember talking to during a previous night don’t be afraid to wave and acknowledge them, it lets them know that you remember them and it will leave a great impression! Refrain from sandals, rompers, and shorts during the third day of sorority rush week. You should be wearing more business like or dressier clothing pieces.

Good luck on your third night of rush week, I know you’ll kill it!

Coral in the QC

Charlotte, NC, also known as Queen City and home to many people and several quaint towns, like Elizabeth and Noda. Today was spent exploring these little areas in hopes of finding a few new restaurants and glorious views of uptown Charlotte.

IMG_1523

Having been in both towns a few times, I knew where to park and what areas I wanted to explore. I ended up finding this adorable ice cream shop, Elizabeth Creamery. The store owners greeted us with a smile as we took a few pictures around the shop. I’m a sucker for vintage looking stores and shops, that must be why I couldn’t resist this ice cream store.

IMG_1465

My accessories today included my usual Kate Spade watch and Alex and Ani bracelet and diamond stud earrings along with this bright coral scarf from target and a pair of turquoise Ray Ban sunglasses. I left my hair natural for a relaxed look as we walked around town.

IMG_1497Coral, my new favorite color and a also the color of this bright scarf fro Target. Its lightweight material and bright hue make it the perfect accessory piece for summer time. These adorable shorts with pom pom detailing are from Target and I paired them with a simple white shirt from Newbury Kustom. Adding a pair of strappy gold sandals from Target matched perfectly with my gold accessories.

IMG_1488

The pattern on these shorts are to die for. Anyone else been loving the pom pom trend as much as me? It’s just so simple and cute. Not to mention these shorts are so incredibly comfy and flowy making it perfect for our afternoon spent walking around town.

IMG_1561

After leaving Elizabeth we journeyed over to Noda, a local town filled with great food and hopping bars. I was inspired by this adorable yoga sign we spotted on our way to the delicious restaurant, Cabo Fish Taco.

IMG_1569

I was beyond excited to eat at Cabo Fish Taco because I had only heard great things about its food. Seeing as I’m a picky eater I only ordered tacos with grilled chicken and cheese, but boy were those puppies good!

IMG_1572

All in all we were able to taste some new food, find a few cute places to hang out, and even got to enjoy the beautiful scenery of uptown Charlotte. Lately I can’t help but be obsessed with tiny towns, maybe it’s the small restaurants with great food? Maybe it’s the beautiful scenery and buildings? Maybe it’s everything!

Does anyone else love little hole in the wall towns? I can’t stay away from them!

Every Day Rompers

IMG_1407

Rompers, the combination of a dress and shorts. The versatility is endless with this new and stylish piece. Whether you’re going to a movie, class, or the mall a romper is the perfect outfit for just about anything. They can easily be dressed up or down when needed and let’s not forget how comfortable these things can be!

IMG_1432

My new favorite purchase has been this simple yet girly black romper from Forever21. It has long bell sleeves with lace detailing on the ends as well as on the ends of the short line. I like to think the lace adds the perfect feminine touch making this romper the perfect clothing piece for me.

IMG_1404

With this lovely black romper as my main piece in my outfit, I styled it with gold accessories to add more detail to the otherwise simple romper. A gold Kate Spade watch, Alex and Ani Bracelet, a Kendra Scott look a like necklace from Forever21, and gold Jack Roger sandals.

IMG_1417

If you’ve been in the market for a new romper I highly suggest checking out Forever for affordable yet cute rompers. Lastly to keep my outfit simple and not too done up I decided to leave my hair in it’s natural state, wavy/curly.

IMG_1397

If you haven’t noticed, I recently was passed down a nicer camera than what I was currently using (my iPhone, ha!), so now I am able to do more fashion posts. I’ve been fiddling around with camera settings and learning out to take photos of myself, so bare with me as my photos will be getting better over time. I hope you all are just as excited as I am about this change!

Do you like the romper trend? Let me know below!

Life with Lauren: Hiking Trip

Hiking Trip

Crowders Mountain, 1,385 ft tall and a gorgeous hiking area in North Carolina that many people visit each year. From the gorgeous views and different trail options, this is a place you can’t resist visiting. Being in such close proximity to my college, several of my friends have visited this mountain before, however I had not. So of course I had to visit and see what all the hustle and bustle was about, and what better time than during a late summer evening?

IMG_1343

Now let me just put this out there, I am by no means athletic, so hiking the more difficult path was something that I struggled with. When we first reached the sign giving us the option of two paths to get to the coveted Crowder’s Mountain spot, my friends and I decided upon the shorter route which was 1.4 miles versus the 2.6 miles. Little did I know that the reason our trail was so short was because it was straight up hill and all rocks. I probably should have read the trail name, Rocky Trail.

IMG_1356

Needless to say I was out of breath and begging for a pit stop not even 10 minutes into our walk up the mountain. (Yeah I was that person in the group). It seemed like years had gone by and I couldn’t wait to finally get to the top and see the long awaited view. Rumor was you could see the Charlotte city skyline, which I was really excited to see!

IMG_1357

After surviving the long and rocky trail we reluctantly reached the top of Crowders Mountain. The boys instantly started effortlessly climbing over rocks to get the best view (and the closest to the edge) while us girls took our time carefully making our way to a stable area where we could still see.

IMG_1367

The view was like no other and definitely worth the buckets of sweat (sorry I know, gross) lost. We then spent our time taking pictures, talking, and simply hanging out until we decided we better head back before the sun set.

IMG_1383

By the time we returned to the car we were covered head to toe in dirt and sweat and probably smelled like we hadn’t showered in weeks. Doesn’t exactly sound like the best thing ever, but the memories made and views we saw were all worth it at the end of the day. Later we even indulged in some pizza and I soon after crawled into bed exhausted.

What exciting things have you done this summer? Let me know in the comments!

What To Wear During Rush: Day 2 Outfits

TOUR

Welcome to sorority rush week day 2, you’ll be expected to dress slightly dressier, however I would still stay away from heels and cocktail type dresses. Depending on your school you may be attending skits, philanthropy night, or history night. Any which way, these three outfit choices should make your rush week easier by breaking down what you should be wearing.

Screen Shot 2015-06-06 at 8.05.22 AM

Outfit Number 1:

Pairing a casual skirt with a nice blouse can be an easy yet effortless look. It is perfect for those of you who may be attending house skits or walking to and from houses. Pairing this outfit with some simple accessories such as a gold bar necklace and Kendra Scott earrings can really spruce up the look. Wearing a cute pair of flats is another way to make this simple outfit slightly dressier.

Screen Shot 2015-06-06 at 7.28.01 AM

Outfit Number 2:

Can you tell I like rompers? They are just so easy and cute for any occasion! This one shown is perfect for rush week night 2, it’s simple yet not to dressy. Pairing it with Jack Rogers sandals and a statement necklace really adds to the look. Wearing a bright colored romper will really help you stand out among other PNMs and make it easier for people to remember you!

Screen Shot 2015-06-06 at 7.35.23 AM

Outfit Number 3:

Although this outfit has a shift dress, it is still casual yet slightly dressier. It’s perfect for those of you who are required to dress up a little but more on night two. Shift dresses of any kind would be a great item to wear during night 2 or even 3! Throwing on a pair of cute sandals and minimal accessories really adds to the look. Tassle necklaces are really popular right now, check Etsy and Forever21 for cute ones!

Night two of sorority rush week is slightly more dressier than night one. Take into account your school and how much walking and sitting you will be doing during the day to decide which outfit is best for you. When choosing skirts, dresses, or rompers remember to make sure they aren’t too short! I hope this day two of sorority rush week really helped you figure out what to wear and now you can head out shopping!

A Southern Girl’s Favorite Things

Screen Shot 2015-06-05 at 6.59.41 AM

She dresses up for football games, she loves baking for anything and everything, and she’s obsessed with Lilly Pulitzer, she’s a southern girl. Being “southern” is a way of life for most and even more so when you attend a college in the south. Everyone loves the stereotypical southern belle, she’s sweet and kind, gorgeous, yet smart. What’s not to love? So today I’m going to share with y’all a southern girl’s favorite things so that maybe you too can get in touch with your inner southern girl.

1. Southern girls love tailgating and of course dressing up at tailgates. Southern girls always have to out do everything and tailgating is a perfect excuse. We can dress up, wear our boots, and drink with the men. It’s the best college past time if you go to school in the south.

2. Southern girls love cooking and baking. Have an event coming up, they will always be ready with cookies in hand. Tailgates need good food too right? They are always there early to make sure everyone is fed properly with their delicious eats!

3. Lilly Pulitzer. This may be an obvious, but it’s a southern girl staple piece. Lilly Pulitzer creates bright and colorful patterned clothes and accessories that match perfectly with the southern girl’s personality. Not to mention it’s classy and cute!

4. Cowgirl boots, these are essential to any southern girl’s wardrobe. They can pretty much be worn with anything, from dresses and skirts to jeans and shorts. Nothing says southern girl quite like a nice pair of boots with a flowing dress.

5. A southern girl never leaves the house without being ready. Even it’s the slightest bit of mascara and powder, she feels the need to look her best at all times. After all you never know who you might run into, and you always seem to run into that one person every time you’re looking like a bum.

Being a southern girl is more than just looks and skills it’s more of an attitude and way of life. A southern girl loves to be the best at everything and loves to take care of everyone around her. Now that you know a southern girl’s five favorite things you too can channel your inner southern girl.

What to Wear During Sorority Rush Week: Round 1

TOUR

It’s the summer before college and you have your mind set on rushing a sorority right? You’ve probably read endless articles on clothes, talking points, hair and makeup, etc. Somehow you still aren’t sure what to wear each night of sorority rush. You want your outfits to be the best out of any PNM, you want to look hot yet classy and you want everyone to be gushing over your clothes. Well lucky for you I’m here to help with that! I will be breaking down each night of sorority rush week to show you the best outfits for each night. Keep in mind that all school’s rush weeks are slightly different and you may have to tweak these outfits to fit the standards and rules of your school. Enough of that though, let’s get into the fun part, the outfits!

Sorority Rush Week

Outfit Choice Number 1:

This outfit should only be for those of you who your school provides a rush week shirt and they ask you to wear it the first day. I would pair a nice pair of J.Crew chino shorts (Old Navy as some too!) and a white pair of converse for all of the walking you’ll probably do. These two things will go great with any rush week shirt. Feel free to add some simple jewelry such as a watch, bracelet, or pearl earrings.

Sorority Rush Week

Outfit Choice Number 2:

This outfit is casual yet still nice looking which is what you want to go for on the first day of recruitment. Each day will get progressively dressier so you want to start out casual and work your way up. I would pair a nice blouse with a pair of white skinny jeans rolled up at the ankles. Throw on a pair of Jack Roger sandals or a nice pair of nude flats. Play around with accessories and find some you like. My favorites are Kendra Scott necklaces combined with pearl earrings and a few bracelets to stack.

Screen Shot 2015-06-04 at 7.39.34 AM

Outfit Choice Number 3:

The last outfit is the dressiest of all three and is better for bigger colleges where rush week is taken more seriously. I would choose a cute summer romper (not too casual though) and pair it with a nice pair of sandals or flats. Make sure that the romper isn’t too short or revealing as you are impressing women not men. Add a few accessories items such as a nice watch and a few bracelets. David Yurman bracelets are too die for!

Each school will be different when it comes to dress code for sorority rush week, however I hope that these different variations helped you to decide which will be best for you! If you have any more questions regarding sorority life or college feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]

10 Tips for Preparing for Sorority Rush

Preparing for Sorority Rush

https://simplesouthernbelle.net

1. Clean up your social media, chapters will be looking to these for an insiders look on how you really are. There should be no alcohol and drunk pictures. No excessive cleavage. No overuse of profanity.

2. Create your resume for sororities, get the help from your parents and other resources available online. Not sure what things to include in your resume, feel free to e-mail me! [email protected]

3. Have a few headshot and portrait photos taken for your application and for social media pages. This will give you a more professional edge.

4. Visit each chapter’s social media pages: Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, websites, etc.

5. Begin planning outfits and start picking up needed items to complete your looks. This is great if you can’t spend as much money all at once.

6. Practice different hairstyles, nail styles, etc. Practice will help you realize what styles look best on you and which take longer than others.

7. Take care of your body, workout, eat healthy, get a nice summer glow, hair treatments, manicure, pedicures, the works. Taking care of your body will really show through during rush week.

8. Begin compiling recommendation letters from people you know who are a part of any organizations you’re looking into rushing.

9. Practice your conversation skills and become comfortable talking about your self, check my blog post about How To Be The PNM Every Sorority Wants. Practice with your friends who are also rushing or even an older friend or sister who is a part of a sorority. The more practice the better.

10. Put the final touches on everything a week before. Your hair should be treated, colored if needed and styled to perfection. Nails and toes should be painted and trimmed. Skin should be tan/glowing (try self tanners). Buy the last items to make your perfect outfits and don’t forget to break in those new shoes! Pack your recruitment bag with all of the essentials. Put a smile on and stand confidently you’ll kill it during rush girl!
